Financial Information for Veterans

Never before has a degree at FDU been so attainable – you can choose to build on previous education, or prepare for a new career. The Post-9/11 GI Bill took effect on August 1, 2009 and offers unparalleled opportunities to achieve higher education goals. Virtually every honorably discharged U.S. veteran has accrued credits toward a degree or certification.

Post-9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33)

The Post-9/11 GI Bill is available to veterans with at least ninety (90) consecutive days on active duty in the U.S. armed forces since September 11, 2001. In addition to a tuition subsidy based on the location of school and length of service, students also can receive housing and book allowances. Students who have used a portion of their veterans education benefits under the Montgomery GI Bill may make a non-revocable decision to switch to the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

Yellow Ribbon Program

Students who are eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program (i.e., veterans with 36 months or more of cumulative active-duty service or eligible dependents) under the Post-9/11 GI Bill can have all tuition and fees covered by their educational benefit and an FDU Yellow Ribbon Grant. FDU is proud to make this offer to all of our undergraduate and graduate students, whether they are on-campus, on-site, or on-line.

Partial Post-9/11 GI Bill Benefits

Students who are not eligible for the Yellow Ribbon Program (i.e., veterans with less than 36 months of cumulative active-duty service) may receive:

  • Partial Post-9/11 educational benefits tied to your length of service and location of school
    • Post-9/11 GI Bill tuition and fee benefit by State
    • Post-9/11 GI Bill tuition and fee benefits by length of service
  • Need-based federal, state, and institutional financial aid determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA)

For National Guard Members

For members of the National Guard, FDU offers a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Individualized Studies, an Associate of Arts (AA), a Master of Science in Cyber and Homeland Security (MSCHSA), a Master of Sports Administration (MSA), a Master of Arts in Student Services Administration (MASSA), and a Master of Administrative Science (MAS) at a reduced tuition rate of $250 per credit. These programs are offered in three modalities: On-campus, off-campus, and online. Tuition and fees for these programs is covered fully by just sixty (60) percent of the maximum GI Bill benefit, or by the Army National Guard Federal Tuition Assistance (FTA) Program.

Other GI Bill Programs

Veterans and their dependents may also be eligible for other veterans education programs, such as:

  • Chapter 30: Prior active duty veterans (Montgomery GI Bill).
  • Chapter 31: Service connected disabled veteran with a disability status of 20% or more.
  • Chapter 35: Dependents, widows, and widowers.
  • Chapter 1606: National Guard or Reserve (Montgomery GI Bill).
