There is a growing interest in the nursing profession among FDU Latino Promise Program® AA degree students. The purpose of this new combined degree program (begins Fall 2025) is to establish a pathway for FDU Latino Promise students to complete the Nursing BSN in under five years.  Latino Promise students who seek to enter the BSN program will take required nursing prerequisites during their AA degree program in place of most electives. If the student meets the requirements for entry into the BSN during their final year in the AA program, they will be able to seamlessly enter the BSN program in the semester immediately following graduation and be eligible to complete the remaining BSN requirements in five semesters (Fall/Spring/Fall/Spring/Summer).

Requirements for Articulating into the Nursing Program

BSN curricula will begin in the Fall semester for students who choose the Latino Promise AA to BSN Program. Students need to meet the following requirements prior to beginning classes in Fall:

  • Completion of all first-year and second-year AA courses in Sciences, Math, Writing, and University Core (see academic program plan below).
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.67 or higher.
  • Achieve a minimum grade of B- (80+) in each course in the major requirements, and a grade of C (74+) in all GenEd courses and courses that will apply to the BSN as electives.
  • Repeat of any Science and Math course only once, with achievement of a grade of B- or better.
  • FDU-internal program application.
  • AA degree completion/conferral.

Academic Program Plan

Accuplacer reading/writing scores and math assessment scores will determine which reading/writing and math courses students will take in the AA program. Those with reading/writing placement scores below the standards must complete courses in prerequisite skills (e.g., WRIT 1000, WRIT 1001, READ 1000). Those with math placement scores below the standards must complete courses in prerequisite skills (e.g., MATH 0298, MATH 1100).  These courses are either non-credit-bearing or will be additional credits, not applicable to the BSN degree.  This requirement applies to all first time, first year students.

Cost of Attendance

Students in the Latino Promise AA program track receive an intuitional “LP” award comparable to half of tuition costs. They are also eligible for Pell/TAG funding. Many students will be able to take two courses during summer semester after year one, at minimal cost, to reduce credit load in year two.

Once entering the BSN program, students continue to receive an institutional “LPC” award comparable to half of tuition costs. Full-time students are also eligible for Pell/TAG funding, as well as institutional merit awards though graduation. All full-time applicants are automatically considered for merit awards. Merit awards for students in the BSN program are based on need and cumulative college GPA and range up to $16,000/year.

The tuition rate for full-time students in the BSN program can be found on the FDU tuition webpage.  Additional fees associated with the BSN program can be found on the Entry Level Nursing Tuition and Fees webpage.
