Academic Profile
My daily experiences in American society as an Asian female have fostered my sensitivity to racial stereotypes and racial discrimination in counseling and counselor education. My academic training and research have been focused on increasing knowledge and awareness of Chinese immigrant adolescents and their psychological well-being by addressing acculturation-related inter-generational conflicts and Asian cultural issues. Other areas that interest me for future research stem from my goal and my responsibility as an Asian community to promote social justice in counseling and counselor education. With experience in research focusing on the welfare of marginalized populations, my narrower focuses are 1. improving the quality of counseling education for Asian female doctoral students and students with international backgrounds and 2. promoting the mental health and well-being of children from Asian immigrant families.
Additionally, years of experience working as a mental health counselor and counselor educator have provided me with a broad perspective on counselor education, enhancing my research methodology and passion for student engagement. I look forward to combining my experiences with teaching in future work to strengthen counseling education for students with various racial backgrounds.
