Academic Profile

After earning a bachelor’s degree in finance and a master’s in business administration in accounting, Professor Calderisi began his professional career by joining the audit staff of the “big eight” international public accounting firm of Ernst & Ernst (now known as Ernst & Young). At Ernst, Professor Calderisi worked on the audits of a number of corporate, financial, nonprofit, and government institutions.

After several years in public accounting and becoming a certified public accountant, Matt left Ernst & Ernst to pursue a career in education, accepting a position as an accounting instructor in a New York college. In the fall of 1976, he started teaching accounting at the Rutherford Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University.

During the years of teaching at FDU, Professor Calderisi has held administrative posts, such as department chairperson and director of the Saturday program at the Wayne campus. Additionally, he has taught in a number of special programs, such as the Executive MBA, MS in accounting and various off-campus graduate programs. Over the years, Matt has mentored a number of students’ honors thesis projects and acts as the faculty advisor to the FDU student organization, The Accounting Society. Professor Calderisi maintains a small accounting practice, performing accounting and tax consulting services, primarily to professionals. For the period 1975 to 2004, he was a member of the Advisory Grading Staff of the Examinations Division (for the Uniform CPA exam used by all fifty states to license CPAs) of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. During that time he headed each of the exam sections (Audit, Financial Accounting, and Reporting, Accounting Theory, and the Business Law sections). Lastly, he acted as head of all the exam sections. For the period 1980 to 2010, he worked on the flagship publication of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Accounting Trends and Techniques.
