Academic Profile

I love my discipline because it is people-centered. I tell students that communication is a great field because people are endlessly weird and fascinating.  I focus on learner-centered classroom experiences, preferring the role of guide on the side over sage on the stage.

My reading, research, and writing focus on the power of storytelling and myth, especially examining why people love to watch the same films over and over. What makes a certain movie your favorite to de-stress and relax? I believe we can learn deeply about our inner selves when we analyze the archetypes and stages in our favorite films. It’s a kick to guide students through this process and help them understand themselves at a deeper level.
