Meet the newest assistant professor joining the Silberman College of Business!
FDU: Describe the importance of MS Excel and its data analytics to accounting.
Carmine Nogara: Excel is used by virtually all professionals engaged in the accounting and business sectors. Utilizing the program to create spreadsheets is a critical skill set that is required by most employers for entry level accountants. The accounting function can be defined as the process of transforming data into useful information to assist in the decision-making process. Many even refer to the field of accounting as “Big Data.” The ability to analyze data is essential in the fields of accounting, auditing, taxation, and investing.
FDU: What is your most treasured possession?
CN: The relationships that I have formed and continue to form with family, friends, and business colleagues. As an example, I recently reconnected with my manager from the corporate sector. I had worked for her in the mid-1980s, and we lost touch over the years. I discovered that she wanted to teach an accounting course, and I hired her as an adjunct professor at my former institution.
FDU: What brought you to FDU?
CN: After completing a successful career in the business sector, I felt it was time to “give back” and I started a new career as an academic. That was 30 years ago, and I have since discovered that I was the one who reaped most of the benefits of making this decision. Being a mentor and role model to students, as well as a facilitator of information, came naturally to me. Although I am a new faculty member at FDU, I have already found out that I have a lot in common with the student body. I can relate to the challenges that our students are facing and hopefully create a smoother path to their academic success and development as professionals.
