FDU: What do you see as the most pressing issue facing our world today?
Derek Larson: One of the most pressing issues facing the world today is access to quality education. It remains a powerful tool for social mobility and economic stability, and a college degree still holds significant value, especially in fields like animation.
FDU: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
DL: As for traveling, Tokyo and Kyoto are excellent choices, especially with students in the animation field. Visiting animation studios would offer students direct insight into the global animation industry. Plus, experiencing Japanese culture and history firsthand would be enriching and inspiring for their work.
FDU: What brought you to FDU?
DL: As the Director of the Animation and Games Program, I take great pride in FDU’s animation program, which is ranked among the top 25 in the nation. Despite being a smaller school, our program is highly competitive, fostering a strong sense of community among the students and driving them to produce excellent creative work.
