FDU: Beyond your academic work, what sparks your curiosity?
Jeeho Ryoo: I am passionate about traveling and discovering new places. Experiencing different cultures, meeting new people, and exploring unfamiliar landscapes is incredibly inspiring. Travel opens my mind to new ideas and perspectives, which often give me fresh insights that I can bring back to my work and my teaching. Whether it is hiking in nature or exploring vibrant cities, each trip is an opportunity to learn and grow. Traveling recharges me. It gives me the chance to step out of my routine and immerse myself in the world around me.
FDU: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
JR: If I could travel anywhere, I would love to visit Switzerland. The breathtaking landscapes — ranging from majestic mountains to pristine lakes — make it a dream destination for me. I find that spending time in nature is incredibly refreshing, and Switzerland’s scenery offers the perfect backdrop for a peaceful escape. Whether it is hiking in the Swiss Alps or exploring charming villages, Switzerland would provide an inspiring and rejuvenating experience that connects me to the beauty of the natural world.
FDU: What brought you to FDU?
JR: I was drawn to FDU because of its commitment to fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment, which I experienced firsthand as an adjunct professor. The camaraderie among the faculty and the opportunity to work with such supportive colleagues made me feel welcomed and valued. Additionally, the chance to contribute to FDU’s growing computer science program at the Vancouver Campus is exciting, especially given the University’s emphasis on innovation and diversity. I saw this role as an opportunity to bring my passion for teaching and research to a university that shares my vision for preparing students for the evolving tech landscape.
FDU: What excites you the most about electrical engineering?
Muhammad Umer: What excites me most about electrical engineering is its ability to merge theory with practical innovation to solve real-world problems. The field is incredibly dynamic, especially with the growing role of machine learning and artificial intelligence, which allow us to push the boundaries of technology. Whether it’s designing smarter systems or enhancing energy efficiency, electrical engineering plays a crucial role in shaping the future, and I’m thrilled to be part of that transformation.
FDU: What do you like to do in your free time — like hobbies or other activities?
MU: In my free time, I enjoy spending quality moments with my family, which helps me unwind and stay balanced. Additionally, I like listening to motivational and character-building videos from a spiritual perspective, as they offer me a deeper understanding of values and personal growth.
FDU: What brought you to FDU?
MU: I was drawn to FDU because of its strong student-centered mission and commitment to fostering collaborative learning and research. The smaller class sizes provide an excellent opportunity to interact with students on a more personal level, creating a more interactive and supportive environment for both teaching and research.
