Early College Dual Enrollment Information for High School Partners

Fairleigh Dickinson University’s Dual Enrollment program was first established in 1984 (formerly called “Middle College”) and was among the first in the country to enter this space. Today, FDU partners with more than 100 high schools in New Jersey, New York, and beyond, and offers more than 3,000 students the opportunity to get a jumpstart on their college education. The Early College Dual Enrollment program at FDU allows high school students to take credit-bearing FDU courses from the comfort of their high school classrooms. Classes are taught by home-district high school teachers who have met certain criteria, and who work from FDU course syllabi and with the support of FDU faculty mentors.

The Early College Dual Enrollment registration window for Spring 2025 opens on Monday, December 2, 2024 and closes on Monday, February 3, 2025.

Professional Development Workshop for Early College Dual Enrollment Teachers: Pedagogy of Kindness

Wednesday, 11/14, 4:00-5:00pm, via Zoom

This workshop will provide an introduction to, and facilitate a conversation about, Catherine Denial’s Pedagogy of Kindness (2024), which was hailed by one reviewer as “faculty development for the soul.” The workshop will focus on how “kindness” (distinct from “niceness”) can help instructors revolutionize their pedagogy, particularly as applied to syllabi, classroom environment, communication with students, and assessment. Attendees do not have to have read Denial’s book in order to participate—just come with an open mind, willingness to share, and a relaxing cup of tea (because it all begins with being kind to ourselves!).

This workshop will be facilitated by Dr. Patty Keefe Durso, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs.

All Early College teachers are welcome to attend! Please note this workshop will only be taking place via Zoom on the date and time noted above. The workshop is scheduled late in the day to accommodate FDU colleagues in Vancouver. RSVP is not required but please contact EarlyCollege@fdu.edu for the Zoom link or with other questions.
