Marie O’Donnell

A woman wearing a graduation cap and gown smiles.“The DNP program is flexible. It allows working professionals to maintain their responsibilities in the workplace while completing their studies. The program sharpened my perseverance, patience and steadfastness.”

Marie O’Donnell, DNP’24 (Metro), is eager to apply what she has learned to her full-time teaching position at RWJ Barnabas Health/Trinitas School of Nursing in Elizabeth, N.J.

FDU’s fully online DNP program offers advanced knowledge in education, among many other fields of work. O’Donnell credits her dean at Trinitas, Rosaminda Santeen, DNP’17 (Metro), with recommending her alma mater, FDU.

Beyond teaching, O’Donnell is a certified flight nurse working with the New Jersey State Police on Medevac. “The Medevac helicopter can also serve as a critical-care transport when the distance is too long for an ambulance,” she says.

Still wishing to work with her students, rather than move into an administrative role, O’Donnell looks forward to participating in committees requiring her new skill set and knowledge.

“I am very passionate about the field of nursing and educating both new and experienced nurses, but I’ve also identified areas of health care that I’d like to fix. Learning how diverse the health-care system is in this country was both disturbing and enlightening. I want to humanize nursing even more.”
