Emmanuel Gonzalez

A young man wears a white coat.“One of the benefits of the School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences is collaboration across disciplines. PA students have discussed ethical questions and conducted patient simulations with pharmacy students. We’ve learned how to approach certain medical situations, to rely on one another and to work as a team to provide care.”

Emmanuel Gonzalez, MS’24 (Flor), decided to become a PA after working as a medical scribe and a medical assistant. “We are trained as generalists,” he says. “I’ve accepted a position with a former clinical site, and now just need to pass my licensing exam.”

Gonzalez wants to develop personal relationships with his patients. The PAs he observed on his rotations were knowledgeable and kind, often going above and beyond to comfort patients and offer deeper answers to their questions.

“The doctor I’ll be working for cares for patients deeply in her primary care and nephrology practice. She’s affiliated with four local hospitals and several hemodialysis centers. I’ll be doing hospital rounds with her and see patients in the office.”

In the office, Gonzalez will examine patients, prescribe medications, order tests, diagnose conditions, assist on procedures, educate patients, conduct research and more.

“The office sees many Hispanic patients. I’ll be able to provide them care in Spanish.” Gonzalez was born in Englewood, N.J., grew up in Venezuela and his family is Colombian. “Patients are much more comfortable with a provider who speaks their language. It’s an opportunity for me to expand my medical knowledge as I help the community and help grow the practice.”
