In Good Health
By Kenna Caprio and Rebecca Maxon
Building on its long tradition of educating health care professionals, Fairleigh Dickinson University formed FDU Health in 2023.
This comprehensive new division brings together baccalaureate programs in clinical laboratory sciences, allied health technology, medical technology, medical imaging science, radiologic technology, psychology, and nursing; master’s programs in clinical mental health counseling, social work, nursing, physician assistant studies, and public health; and doctoral programs in nursing practice, occupational therapy, pharmacy, and clinical psychology. FDU has offered nursing programs and other related health care programs since 1952, adding the above majors and degrees in the ensuing decades.
“By combining our existing legacy with newer degrees,” President Michael Avaltroni said, “we now have a cadre of programs that cross the primary, behavioral health, acute, rehabilitative, and supportive care realms of the health care delivery system. FDU Health will open doors of opportunity to individuals while addressing the critical needs of communities and health care systems.”
Avaltroni added that bringing these disciplines together will facilitate collaborative interdisciplinary educational and research opportunities, while also enabling programs to share resources and facilities. Students will receive the real-world training and practical experience essential to provide holistic care and to take on leadership roles in today’s increasingly integrated and complex health care environment.
In our following coverage of FDU Health, FDU Magazine explores the impact of community service, profiles current students and recent alumni and looks ahead to new partnerships.
