Washington State Running Start Program
Introduction
Running Start is a program that allows 11th and 12th grade students to take college courses at Washington’s 34 community and technical colleges, Washington State University, Eastern Washington University, Central Washington University, The Evergreen State College, and Northwest Indian College if the institution’s governing board decides to participate in the program. Students earn both high school and college credits for these courses. Running Start transfer credit is for work completed for college/university credit before graduation from high school that can be used to satisfy credit for both high school and college/university level requirements. Running Start transfer credit excludes Advanced Placement (AP) credit; International Baccalaureate (IB) credit; and any coursework completed at a college or university after graduation from high school.
Policy Statement
FDU will recognize for transfer, courses completed by students in the Running Start Program while attending Washington State High schools. Transfer credits will be accepted under the same guidelines that apply to FDU’s acceptance of transfer credit from any accredited community college.
FDU will accept for transfer only courses of an academic nature (not vocational) where a grade of “C” or higher is achieved.
All courses must be recorded on an official transcript from the community college where the courses were taken. Credit decisions will be based on the transcript from the regionally accredited college or university where the courses were taken.
The maximum number of transfer credit that can be transferred will be subject to limitations based on specific program guidelines.
Procedures
A record of all academic work undertaken in other collegiate institutions must be declared at the time of application. Students who fail to provide such transcripts may be guilty of unethical conduct and may be subject to disciplinary action including suspension or dismissal from the University.
Students are required to provide an official transcript from the institution where the courses were taken. Grades and credit awarded based on evaluation of another institution will not be accepted.
Credits may be awarded for courses at a commensurate level and subject matter. Transfer credit for coursework completed is not guaranteed and FDU reserves the right to make decisions on all transfer credit matters.
FDU will award credit only for eligible courses. Grades and GPA will not be blended into the overall FDU GPA. Articulation of credit to specific programs may mean that not all credit will be applicable towards the degree requirements of a program. Students may also be required to repeat a course at the discretion of the Program Coordinator.
Students have the right to appeal all matters concerning transfer credit per established and posted procedures.
