Adjunct Faculty Requirements

Adjunct faculty at the Institution who wish to conduct research with human subjects as part of their Institutional Responsibility with FDU should obtain prior approval from their Dean/Director which will then be forwarded to the University Provost/Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs for final approval.

All research involving human subjects as defined by the FDU HSR policy. HSR Policy (link to policy at https://www.fdu.edu/academics/research/grants-sponsored-projects/research-ethics-and-compliance/research-with-humans-irb/) conducted by the faculty, staff and students of FDU or by outside investigators conducting research at the University, must be reviewed and approved before implementation by the IRB and/or it’s representatives.

FDU adjunct faculty are defined as faculty limited to teaching a maximum of 9 credits in a regular semester, 6 credits in a short-term semester, and cannot exceed a total of 22 credits in 12 months. Those adjunct faculty members who wish to serve as PI for exempt and non-exempt human subjects research must obtain prior written approval.

Procedure

Complete the form titled Adjunct Faculty Request to Conduct Human Subjects Research (link to form, form is attached to e-mail, and should also be placed on IRB Forms and Templates at https://www.fdu.edu/academics/research/grants-sponsored-projects/irb/forms-templates/ under OTHER FORMS) and have the School or Department Chair sign that they have reviewed the proposal, have resources to complete the study, support and approve the completion of the research.

After obtaining the approval, the PI should then send the following to the Human Research Compliance Manager: (1) Completed Adjunct Faculty Request to Conduct Human Subjects Research form, signed by your School/Department Chair; (2) Copies of required documents for IRB review; and (3) A current CV. The IRB Review process will commence after the signed form and documents are submitted via e-mail to dicciann@fdu.edu.
