Office of Communications

The Office of Communications informs and engages our audiences (internal and external) with information that highlights the people, programs and the progress of Fairleigh Dickinson University.  By spreading awareness and educating our constituents about key news, events and updates from the University, we seek to contribute to that progress and inspire support and advocacy for the institution. In addition to its pivotal role in facilitating public relations and print and electronic communications, the office focuses heavily on advancing FDU’s identity. This includes oversight of the University logo along with selected marketing and advertising programs.

University Identity

The University name, logos and marks are registered trademarks. To assure quality use of these marks, the Office of Communications reviews how they are used. Identifying marks used on clothing and other items sold in the bookstore and elsewhere must be licensed. Anyone planning to obtain items using a University mark must speak beforehand with the associate vice president of communications to determine if a license fee is involved (waived for internal use) and to obtain the license from Licensing Resource Group. A drawing of how the mark will be used on the product must also be submitted. This procedure ensures that all Fairleigh Dickinson University identification is used correctly.

This is also important for making University marks campus specific for any application as we continue to “brand” each campus (Metropolitan Campus, Florham Campus, Wroxton College, Vancouver Campus). The Office of Communications can help with this.

University Logos

Downloadable University logos for internal communication and Web applications can be found in the University’s Graphic Standards Guide. High-resolution or vector-based logos for publications and other applications can be obtained via email through Hector Torres, by calling 201-692-7104 or e-mailing hector_torres@fdu.edu. Please specify whether the CD and logo should be formatted for PC or Macintosh as well as any other specific needs.

Advertising

University Resources Agency is Fairleigh Dickinson’s in-house advertising agency. All advertising, whether it be classified or retail display advertising, is placed and tracked through University Resources. Anyone wishing to place a classified ad for job openings must contact Pat Miller in the Human Resources Department (201-692-2705, patricia_miller@fdu.edu, mail code H-DH3-05).

Retail advertisements require a Request for Placement of Advertising form, which must be filled out and sent to Sara Campione, Communications Specialist (201-692-7337, sarac@fdu.edu, mail code H-DH3-15). If you need help with the design or layout of an advertisement, please allow two weeks for production.

The Office of Communications manages and supports a wide variety of communications efforts for the University community including the University’s website and official social networking sites, FDU Magazine and other major university publications, public relations and the University’s professionally run radio station WFDU. The office provides expertise and assistance in every aspect of communications from op-ed writing and media training to art design and printing. It particularly supports the Office of the President and the Office of Institutional Advancement, ensuring that those critical operations are well communicated. It further provides a leadership role in promoting the University’s identity and institutional image.
