English Proficiency
International applicants are required to submit a copy of qualifying results from an acceptable English proficiency test as part of their application for admission. Official scores need to be reported before the first academic semester.
Students who do not meet the requirements for direct admission may be eligible for admission via an undergraduate or graduate pathway program. See our pathways programs for more information.
Exemptions at Time of Application for Admission
Submission of any of the following will be considered in lieu of the above mentioned test submission:
- U.S. College or University
- Completion of English Composition 1 (or the equivalent) with a grade of C or higher
- U.S. High School
- A minimum of two years of study in a U.S. based high school with passing grades in two years of college preparatory English (English Composition I/II – not ESL/English as a Second Language)
- Non-U.S. Institutions
- Students who have completed at least two years of study in any of the following countries are exempt from providing an English proficiency test score at the time of admission.

Exemption from Testing at Time of Enrollment
English for Professional Success (EPS) placement testing at the time of enrollment may be required, even for those exempt at time of application for admission.
During International Student Orientation, most new international undergraduate and graduate students will be tested for English proficiency. Exemptions from English proficiency placement testing include students who completed at least two years of academic study in the United States or the countries listed below.

Depending on their proficiency placement test results, students may be placed into an English for Professional Success (EPS) course that focuses on the student’s major field of study.
Undergraduates placed into EPS must take the class and co-requisite lab in the first semester. Credits in EPS will apply to the undergraduate student’s General Education requirement.
